Youth Action Council
Y.A.C. is a community service and leadership development group whose goal is to make Granby a better place for youth. YAC consists of two boys and two girls from each class. Typically new members join as freshmen and stay with YAC until graduation. Members are selected from those who submit applications for openings or are recommended for participation by school staff. They are selected with the goal of forming a group that represents a wide range of interests and involvement. We strive to be diverse in our representation of the Granby student body.

Perhaps best known for putting on the 6th Grade dances, and now the 8th Grade Red Carpet Dance, YAC uses the funds raised at the dances to support the YAC Quiet Leader Scholarship at the High School. This scholarship is given to a graduating boy and girl who is recognized as having been a quiet contributor to the community, but who may have been overlooked by other scholarship providers.

The 8th Grade Red Carpet Dance was a fantastic success!

YAC kicks off the school year with a leadership retreat. The group uses this time to connect and develop goals for the upcoming year (having fun is allowed as well). We strive to help each YAC member develop into a unique and strong leader, with an understanding of individual strengths and weaknesses. We use this knowledge to build a strong and motivated team.
In addition to the dances, the group will plan one or more smaller community service projects. Members are also asked to participate in local board meetings such as the Youth Services Advisory Board and the Granby Prevention Council. They help speak for the youth of our community. |
