Safe Dates for Parents
Safe Dates is an evidence based program, typically taught over 6 to 10 hours, that is proven to reduce the number of teens who become involved in dating abuse or violence.
The challenge is getting today's youth to carve out an hour or two after school over the course of 6 weeks to attend these classes. Our Youth Service Bureau offers these classes in a boot camp style during the summer and sometimes during school breaks, covering the maters in a two day session. Even so, we only reach a handful of teens, and dating violence and abuse is found in all communities, all ethnicity, and all socioeconomic levels. This is a problem for our Granby teens.
The Safe Dates developers recognize that the class style program will not work for all communities. So, they developed the Families for Safe Dates program which we are now offering. Parents and care givers interested in covering this topic with their tween or teen simply reach out to AnneMarie Cox at the Youth Service bureau and they will be provided with the first two of six parent booklets. These booklets provide information and activities for care givers and teens to do together as they learn about different topics regarding adolescent dating abuse.
If you would like more information on this program, simply complete the request form below. We will then send you the first two booklets along with information about how to implement the program.
